With the New Year now underway, many of you may be looking at little things that you can do to improve the nutrition of your diet.  Constantly staying on the lookout for the latest research regarding what works and what doesn’t when it comes to your diet is important if you hope to see success.
Recently a study put out by Pollock Communications listed a few key points that you should keep in mind. If you can start to incorporate these into your very own diet program, you should see progress coming your way.
Think Green
The first trend is to think all natural. The more natural you can make your diet, the better says dieticians of this research group.  Much focus in today’s world will be placed on eating foods that come in their completely natural state while turning away from all the processed foods that line the supermarket shelves.
Use Herbs More Often
The second trend that you’ll see being mentioned more often in 2012 is using spices to add flavor to your foods rather than condiments and sauces.  Many spices have their own unique benefits as well, so this further adds to the benefits you’ll receive from having them in your diet plan.
Just be on the lookout for high-sodium spices and make sure that you stay away from this variety.
Focus On Micronutrients
Micronutrients will be another large focus for many people moving into the coming year.  Rather than strictly looking at how many grams of protein, carbs, and fats you’re consuming, more people will be looking at fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
More awareness is being raised about just how important these nutrients are to form a healthy diet so people are starting to make sure that their diet doesn’t have any weak spots where nutritional density is low.
Seasonal Produce Is Big
More focus is also going to be placed on all the seasonal fruits and vegetables that you can buy.  Far too many people are getting in the habit of consuming the same foods day in and day out and this is having a very negative impact on their nutritional standing.
Start experimenting with new options when you see them at the supermarket.
Use MyPlate As A Guide
The old food guide is now being replaced by a new guide – the MyPlate guide, which has a brand new set-up to consider for your food consumption.  With this set-up, you’ll be having half your plate divided between protein sand grains, with the other half consisting of vegetables and fruits.  Dairy will be a small serving on the side to add extra protein and calcium.
This much smaller dedication to grain products is going to help to combat diabetes along with many other negative health conditions associated with a very large carb intake.

So there you have the primary points to consider as you move into 2012. Follow these and you can feel confident your diet will be better because of them.
Organic gardening is a hobby that can give you many benefits. A supply of chemical-free herbs for cooking, a detoxified air inside the house, added beauty and décor to your home, and significant reducer of stress level, these are all benefits of having an indoor organic gardening. Aside from these, it can be very fun and exciting to tend to your own garden inside your home.
If you want to have an indoor organic gardening, there are many herbs and plants that are easy to grow. You can find them at the local nursery or even through online sites. They can be mail ordered and delivered right at your doorstep. Specifically, the following 8 kinds are great examples of plants that you can grow indoor.

The weeping fig is a plant that is known to survive even with little yet tender care for long periods of time. The chamaedorea palm is a great plant to lend a décor atmosphere inside your home especially if you prefer a tropical theme. The Chinese evergreen is perfect for homes that come with low-light conditions. Just like the two it doesn't require major maintenance, making it great choice for the beginners in gardening.

The Boston fern on the other hand is placed by many inside a bathroom or at a greenhouse as it loves high humidity and doesn't require feeding a lot, once a month will suffice. Another one is English ivy, which can be hang on topiaries or baskets making it very ideal for beautifying to your home. The same with peace lily, but this variety is an excellent air purifier while providing great blooms and greenery to the house.

The cactus combo bonsai is a fantastically unique plant variety that adapts easily to temperature and moisture level changes making it ideal to any home indoor garden. It is also the nature of braided ficus tree, but being an adaptable variety of tree it doesn't need big fuss for it to survive inside the house.

When it comes to indoor herbs, they require a special maintenance care but when you see them grow the rewards are remarkable. For them to thrive properly and healthily, most varieties of herbs will need to be exposed on full sun for six hours everyday. The soil will need to be enriched and the container must have a perfect drainage.

Some of the popular indoor herbs include lemon grass, which you can grow by cultivating a stalk in a container or pot with few inches of water. The mint leaves are excellent tea and must be grown separately from other herbs as this variety of herb can be more invasive than the others.

The chive on the other hand requires lesser amount of light than the others while the parsley and bay tree are both slow growing herbs but always worth your wait as they are great herb to have on hand for your cooking activities. There are other varieties of herbs which you can grow indoor, like sage, thyme, oregano, cilantro, basil, and rosemary.

Organic indoor gardening is such a wonderful and rewarding activity that anyone can have. With the many benefits it provides, there is no reason for you to procrastinate on this idea. You will definitely see it when you start to reap the full benefits.

Efforts to prevent global warming or at least, reduce the effects of it are already being conducted by the international community. But the government can only do so much; we too have the responsibility and we have to make sure that we contribute to this global effort in our own little way. Here is the list of simple, yet very effective ways to prevent global warming; some are very easy; some are plain environment friendly; some require a little investment; while others help you save a lot of money.
At Home
Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs. Making your home earth-friendly can be as simple as removing your power hungry yellow bulbs and replacing them with low-watt white ones.

Install programmable thermostat in your house. This way, you will be able to automatically regulate your house's temperature especially at night. To conserve more energy, lower your average temperature by 2 degrees during winter and increase it by 2 degrees in summer.

Keep your furnace clean. With a clean furnace, you don't have to dump hundreds of pounds of unnecessary CO2 a year.

Turn off all unused appliances instead of keeping them on "standby" mode.

Invest on energy-efficient appliances. Look for Energy Star seal whenever you are buying a new appliance.

Plant a tree… or many trees. If your property permits, plant as many tree as you can to help reduce carbon dioxide in the air.

Insulate your home. Heat loss accounts to as much as 20% of your total energy consumption. Check your house for leaks and insulate every corner of the house properly to keep the cold air out, especially during winter.

When Traveling
Whenever we drive our vehicle, we contribute to carbon emission that is one of the main contributors to global warming. While there is no way to travel long distance without taking our vehicle, let us try to conserve gas as best as possible by driving smart. Increase your gas mileage by keeping your car tuned up, keeping your acceleration gradual, and maintaining the most fuel-efficient speed. If possible, walk, bike or carpool. The more fuel you save; the better for the environment and the better for your pockets. If you are planning to buy a new car, choose from different fuel-efficient hybrid cars.

Waste Management
One of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprints is by reducing the amount of waste you throw.

Bring your own bag every time you go to the grocery. Bring your own reusable bottle of water every time you go out.

Segregate your waste. Separate the bio degradable from non-bio degradable products. Suggest that your local government should have proper waste management program to reuse waste products.

The keywords? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

These are just some of ways to help ease the burden our Mother Nature experiences. Yes, all these efforts may not account so much, but at these times, every ounce of effort to save the environment is worth a lot, especially if done collectively.

Today, there is a noticeable trend of more and more people enrolling in online education programs than ever before. There is also a sizeable increase in the number of schools offering courses online than, say, five or ten years ago.
Some students have jumped into the bandwagon of the non-traditional approach to education by getting it online. The method might be different but the goals are, of course, the same – to further their education and expand their opportunities and advance their careers.

For a new idea, online education also has its own two sides to consider. Compared with good old on-campus education, online education must be carefully considered.

Costs

Offhand, online education looks more affordable than traditional on-campus education. First, there are tangible savings that are obvious right away.

There are savings on transportation (gas, cars, etc.), housing and meals for the simple reason that the student is not living on campus. Often, there is no need to buy expensive textbooks. Resource information can be downloaded straight from the Internet. (Some programs charge these services, however.)

Tuition costs vary greatly from school to school online. Some can be comparatively expensive (at par with on-campus institutions) but costs are actually dependent on the chosen courses. Generally, costs are competitive.

These online education programs offer the same financial aid packages available from traditional education institutions. The packages include student loans and grants.

Convenience

Convenience could be the main reason why there is such a substantial growth in the online education industry these recent years. An online course has enough flexibility in study schedules which can be tailor-made to the student’s personal needs.

This set-up makes it perfect for people who are already working (full or part time), those with children to take care of, or those with other commitments.

With a computer and an Internet access, the online classroom is available 24/7. The decision on where and when to study is up to the student.

 Democratized field

One of the unmentioned reasons for the popularity of online education is actually how this particular system levels the field. In an online degree program, there is an amount of anonymity.

Whereas in regular schools, certain discriminating factors are considered (whether tacitly or not), online schools never consider factors like age, physical disabilities, race, gender, or physical appearance.

This open policy is liberating. Some individuals who are reserved in other settings are emboldened to contribute their thoughts in an online discussion, something they cannot do in traditional live forums.

Points to consider

Apparently, the prospective online student must have a reliable computer and Internet access before he or she considers enrolling in an online education program. If the online time is limited due to financial constraints, the student will be extremely disadvantaged.

The student (and the instructor-professors) should have a minimum level of computer knowledge. Both must be comfortable with emails and discussion groups, and must know a wide array of search engines to help them wade through the Net.

The student is expected to keep up with the latest computer technology, and learn new skills in online researches, reviews, and others.

Choice

In the end, however, choosing an online education over that of the traditional one depends on the needs of the prospective student. It is an exciting new trend, and one that certainly brings new results.

Beginners in real-estate investing and first time homebuyers would often experience blunders when they look for houses to purchase.  To avoid such frightful experience, which could lead to loss of time, effort and even worse your money; you would have to learn what common mistakes are made in real-estate and how to avoid them.
• Lack of research

When buying properties and houses, you would have to go back to the basics:  which is doing some research before proceeding with any kind of purchase.  Research is basically asking questions about the house or the property. You could ask questions similar to the following to have an idea about the property:

a. Reasons for putting the property on sale
b. Any problems about the house’s foundation that needs to be addressed.
c. If the former owners have paid for the house and the methods of payment.
d. If there are any problems in the area where the house and property is located like being near a flood zone, termite problems, etc.
e. If there are any problems in town area.

• Not considering the bidding and maintenance cost

Your research would also include the price.  It is a common scenario when a buyer would tend to offer a higher price for a property that would fit their needs and demands.  Before bidding for a property, search for similar houses in the area and how much were the sold in the last few months.  It is better to look at houses and properties that were already sold than those houses still up for negotiations or sale.  Buyers should bid consistently with the other houses’ prices.

Aside from the upfront price of the house or property, buyers would also forget to factor in the maintenance cost of the house.  Without considering the maintenance cost, homebuyers would often find themselves buried in debts. Real-estate investors should always keep the expenses in mind when buying property.  Since the cost of improving the home would definitely have an impact how they would price their house. Having the home inspected could put a dent on your bank account, but never sacrifice it.  Always get a good home inspector even if it means you would be spending more

• Too much waiting

There is nothing wrong with waiting for the right house but a homebuyer should be realistic.  It is difficult to find for a home that would fit 100% with their needs and demands.  Homebuyers who are looking for homes with this method would usually by pass homes that would be meeting nearly all of their standards. Usually, homebuyers who wait around for their perfect homes would not notice that the cost of purchasing properties is constantly increasing. To avoid this, it is important to sort out priorities.  Identify the top needs that should be provided for a prospective home.

• Without any professional assistance

Another mistake that most homebuyers make is that they think can get a house on their own.  There is nothing wrong with buying property and house without any professional help. It is just that it could be very stressful and would take much of your time. Real-estate agents have the resources, contacts, and tools that would be able to help make the search quicker. Aside form the real-estate agent, if you’re planning on investing on this industry then you would also need a home inspector, a lawyer and an insurance representative.

Global warming and the greenhouse effects are two ideas that are always tied together. It is commonly thought that the greenhouse effect is a direct result of global warming. When you look deeper into it, you'll find out that the greenhouse effect is a different problem all together. It is both a cause and an effect of man's disregard to Mother Nature.
The greenhouse effect is the process where heat and gases are trapped in the earth's atmosphere causing an increase in the earth's temperature. Because there are too much greenhouse gases on the earth's atmosphere, more heat is trapped on the earth's surface. The accumulation of too much heat affects the earth in many ways. Here are some of the results of the greenhouse effect.

Melting of ice caps and glaciers
When ice caps and glaciers melt, it will raise the sea levels in alarming heights. If ice continues to melt through the coming years, there is a danger that some islands may be well under water a few years from now. According to studies, the melting of ice caps can have an effect on the ecosystem. When these ices melt and go into the ocean, it will make the ocean less salty than it should be. Desalinization of bodies of water will have an effect on ocean current and temperature.

As the ice melt in the arctic area, the place will get warmer and some species living there might be endangered because of the sudden rise in temperature and other changes in the environment. To top it all off, when ice caps are gone, the effects of global warming may double, if not triple. Ice caps help make the earth cooler. With them gone, there wouldn't be anything more to cool the earth's temperature and global warming would worsen.

Climate Change
The earth follows some weather patterns. With the greenhouse effect, the climate patterns of the earth may change. There may be greater and longer periods of rainfalls or longer periods of drought. For the past years, a number of hurricanes and typhoons had caused too much destruction on different areas like Northern America and Asia. Who would even forget about Hurricane Katrina that caused billions of damages in the United States and Ketsana that took many lives and dreams of Asians?

Droughts and heat waves would also increase in frequency and intensity. Right now, problems of drought are already severe in some areas of the world like Africa. It can still get worse because of global warming.

Diseases
Because of rapid climate changes, there is a great possibility for development of various new diseases and worsening of known diseases. This will not only be because of rapid climate changes but it may also be because of migration of different species to areas that are suitable to them. Animals would migrate to areas where they are comfortable living. If changes in their ecosystem happen, they'll find a new place to live in. There are chances that as they travel, they will bring with them illnesses and cause the spread of plagues and transfer of diseases to human beings.

There is still something that can be done to alleviate global warming and the greenhouse effect but it will take great efforts to do so. IF we start today, we'll still be able to stop these drastic effects.
